How do you feel when your favorite glass break?
Are you sad?
Are you angry?
Are you depress?
Are you accepting with open heart?
This morning, when I poured hot drink from Thermos to my lovely glass, I heard the Cracking sound from the glass, it was crystal clear and sharp. After the cracking sound, I saw the water was leaking from the glass. It was broken.
I bought the glass from Taiwan and it was a beautiful and also slightly expensive glass. However, I accepted the broken glass with open heart and I am fully aware it was a norm that It’ll broken in one day.
I am truly grateful that I read the profound teaching from Ajahn Chah yesterday, about the broken glass.
Be silence and let’s contemplate, Ajahn Chah explained that when Buddha uses a good glass, he penetrates all the way to seeing that the glass is already broken. He sees the glass that isn’t broken, and has us know that it’s already broken. Whenever you pick up the glass, he has you say, “The glass is already broken.” Drink from it and put it down: He tells you that it’s already broken. Right? The Buddha understanding was like this. He saw the broken glass in the unbroken one. Why did he know that it was broken? Because it isn’t broken. That’s how he knew it as broken. “Whenever its time is up, it’ll break.”
It’s simple yet so profound. Think about it, even though we can’t see the crack in the glass, however, it’ll break one day, it might happen in any moment too. Seeing the truth, and most important, it apply to our life too. Our body might look strong and healthy, and one day, we are going to age and die. It’s so normal and its fact of life, yet some of us, we can’t accept this reality. We cry and cry when somebody pass away, we might even keep asking, “WHY?”, “WHY?”, “WHY”…
Always remember the Buddha’s teaching, “Seeing the broken glass in the unbroken one.”
Treasure every moment, live life to fullness and accept the impermanence of life.
